I have been using a Sony DCR-HC21 from my university for a month or more now. I am a photographer, but really interested in digital video editing, so I tried a camcorder that was slightly above average range. The Sony DCR-HC52 has enough features to make the right business for me. Ability to recored in 16:9 widescreen, touchscreen LCD, the ability to control exposure, manual and auto focus, 40x optical zoom, and a $ 234.99 purchase is extremely impressive.
The only con that I can think of is that the battery supplied with the camera is very poor. Lasts only 115 minutes, which looks good, but compared to NPFH50 that lasts 3 hours is poor. Do yourself a favor and buy the NPFH50 battery here for $26 on Amazon.
The other thing that I can not understand is that none of MiniDV camcorders come with FireWire data cable. It appears that includes a cable of $ 8 would not be so difficult after all bundles the Sony software to transfer video to PC.
All in all Sony DCR-HC52 is the best video camera for the money, I chose this over the Canon zr900 and I’m glad I did. It is well built and has all the features that an amateur or professional that you want.
